The Planetarium That Comes to You!

Starlab is an inflatable igloo-like dome in which everything that can be shown in a fixed planetarium can be displayed within your own school. The Journeyman Starlab comes with an experienced presenter, saving you the cost of an excursion and avoiding timetable disruption. Starlab was designed by a teacher for use in the classroom, and its portability and versatility makes it unique in education for students of all ages.

Millions of students in over forty countries enter a Starlab every year. Students love the whole experience of Starlab, and its very nature and small exclusive audiences lends itself to a high level of involvement and interaction.

The Presentations

The Journeyman Starlab saves you the disruption and costs of an excursion, and has many other advantages:

• All of our presentations are linked to the Science VELS programmes, Levels 1 to 6.
• Each session is for a single class with its own teacher.
• Teachers can request special topics, and sessions can be varied as required.
• The daily schedule is tailored to suit the school's own timetable.

All Journeyman Starlabs are equipped with projection cylinders that demonstrate the night sky, maps of the world, and the Greek mythological constellations. Also provided are photoslide projectors for close up views of the Planets, and video movies that clearly demonstrate basic subjects, such as the causes of the seasons and of night and day.

At each visit our presenter will bring an ever-expanding folio of worksheets derived from world sources and free of copying restriction. We also supply a star chart for the evening of the visit for distribution to the students.

Requirements and Capacity

Our Starlab domes are available in two sizes:

• The Standard Dome: Clear floor space required is 6.4m x 5.5m x 3.2m
  Capacity: 30 students (more if Preps to Grade 2)

• The Giant Dome: Clear floor space required is 8.5m x 8.5m x 4.2m
  Capacity: 70 students (less for mixed aged family shows)

Starlab domes must be indoors, electrical power is needed, and a carpeted room is more comfortable for the students. A darkened room is better but not essential.

Our Starlabs are often in demand for other venues such as: public libraries, holiday programmes, shopping centres, professional development, teacher training, kindergartens, clubs and associations, and for fund raising purposes.
